Your body operates as a well-balanced system.

When all aspects of this system are doing their jobs and working together, we’re able to experience wellness. Naturally, things such as illness, injury, or an impactful life event can put a wrench in part of this system, requiring its other aspects to step in and make up the difference. This is how your body knows how to heal itself and restore balance. Fluctuations in our physical, mental, and emotional health are natural and expected parts of life, and things will often run their course.

...and our well-balanced systems can only compensate for their weaker areas for so long before issues start to arise.

When talking about acupuncture, we often hear it’s a way of “bringing energy into balance.” What this means is that acupuncture can be used as a tool to help shift the workload within the system when things get stuck, allowing your body to get back to healing itself.

The true work of an acupuncturist is to accurately identify where an imbalance began within the system. Most negative symptoms and patterns are the result of your body compensating for this underlying issue. Using tools such as pulse and tongue diagnosis (read more in What to Expect), we can form a picture of what is going on inside the body.

As explained above, your body wants to heal. Five Element Acupuncture is a discipline of Chinese medicine that recognizes the most valuable tool for bringing you back into balance is restoring what is right with you. It operates on the concept that you have a core constitution that reflects the quality of one of the Five Elements found in nature:

Your constitutional element is your core nature — a part of you that is whole and well. It holds your unique blueprint and potential, and provides the framework upon which your health is built. A Five Element acupuncturist focuses on your story to understand the many influences that may be shaping your health today, and to begin building a picture of who you are as your best self.

This is a powerful approach for unraveling chronic and complex conditions, as we are often unaware of all that may have become stuck in our system and why. By treating your elemental constitution, we provide your mind, body, and spirit  with a roadmap back to their healthiest and most balanced states.

While Five Element Acupuncture can be used to treat pain, its deepest potential lies in supporting the whole person. As a practitioner, I place particular emphasis on the emotional roots that contribute to systemic health issues. Some factors that may shape our work together include:

  • Trauma or mistreatment
  • Physical or emotional neglect
  • Major life transitions
  • Loss and prolonged grief
  • Burnout or chronic stress
  • Loss of direction or faith
  • Relationship strain or heartbreak
  • A desire to build a deeper relationship with oneself

What then is Five Element Acupuncture?

Addressing these roots often opens the door to profound and lasting healing.

Sometimes, however, things get stuck...
